About 5 years ago, Dr. Jan Akervall invented a mouth guard that performed better under pressure than any other traditional guard. His wife Sassa saw the potential in this new thin sports guard, and from the kitchen table of her home in Ann Arbor, MI, she she began to build the [SISU](https://blog.sisuguard.com/www.sisuguard.com) brand. We grew by word of mouth, through friendships, partnerships and [affiliations](https://blog.sisuguard.com/the-official-mouthguard-of-the-national-lacrosse-league). Today, SISU sports guards are sold in over [500 retail stores](http://www.sisuguard.com/find-a-store/) in the world and over 1/4 million athletes visited our website at [www.sisuguard.com](http://www.sisuguard.com) so far in 2015. As we grew, our goals grew too. At first, we just wanted to sell a bunch of guards. But for us, who are mothers and fathers of athletes, the concern of athletic safety became a priority. We made a commitment to [better sports safety](https://blog.sisuguard.com/safer-rugby-tackles-in-football). We fought through mouthguard stereotypes and concussion myths to create a better understanding of dental safety and protection in [our athletic communities](http://www.sisuguard.com/reviews/). Instead of spending money on expensive pro-athlete sponsorships, we [dedicated funds to the neighborhood leagues and local sports clubs](https://blog.sisuguard.com/sisu-guard-a-year-in-review-2014). We sponsored underprivilleged athletes with better equipment and gear so they could play safer. This too became our fight... Our vision...  In the words of [Malcolm Gladwell,](http://gladwell.com/) "When you are a visionary, the world doesn't embrace you. The world thinks you are a wierdo!" As a new, revolutionary brand commited to athletic safety, we endured our fair share of skepticism. We rose to the challenge with backup from our science team and with overwhelming support from SISU athletes, who just could not stop talking about our brand...  "The idea of "Our Fight" video comes from the depth of gratitude to our brand amassadors," said Sassa Akervall, CEO of SISU Mouth Guards. "We call them "our athletes". They inspire us to continue making a real difference. We wanted to give back to our community and to tell a story of athletic dedication from youth to maturity. This story is about real people who play sports. They may never grow up to be the next Lebron James, but to us - they are super stars!"   "Our Fight" was made possible by contibutions from over 300 local athletes, teams and clubs in the Midwest and our brilliant partners from [Snow Day who made it amazing](http://snowdaymade.com/about-us/). It is a dedication to all athletes, in all sports, throughout their life's journey. From a young age to deep maturity,  their commitment embodies the meaning of SISU: to persevere, to draw on the last reserve, to win against all odds. To win, even if that victory is small compared to some.  We hope it inspires you...     [![team discount
