Suddenly, WNBA games are selling out, NFL ratings are surging, and tweens and dads alike are shouting stats at the dinner table. The names “Caitlin Clark” and “Taylor Swift” are making headlines not just in their own arenas (literally and metaphorically), but across pop culture, fashion, music, and beyond. Welcome to the era of crossover athletes and cross-cultural fandom. Along with it, a renewed opportunity to talk about something that’s always been important, but rarely this visible: safety.   The “Caitlin Clark Effect” and a Swift Touchdown Caitlin Clark’s entry into the WNBA didn’t just boost jersey sales, it redefined what it means to be a female athlete in America. Her presence has brought sellout crowds, record-breaking viewership, and a flood of young athletes (especially girls) picking up a basketball for the first time. Over in the NFL, Taylor Swift didn’t lace up any cleats, but she might as well have. Her relationship with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce led to a massive spike in NFL viewership, particularly among young women. Kelce jersey sales spiked 400%. Swifties started tuning in for the touchdowns. What does all this have to do with mouthguards? Everything.   When Visibility Increases, So Does Responsibility When you increase participation in sports, especially among first-time athletes, you also increase risk. More young players on the court or field means more opportunity for accidental contact, awkward falls, and surprise collisions. And here’s the thing: in many of these sports: basketball, soccer, flag football, and volleyball mouthguards aren’t always required. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t necessary. Take it from us: front tooth injuries are one awkward elbow away. Just ask the athletes who’ve had dental bills bigger than their first paycheck.   Let’s Make Safety Part of the Highlight Reel Mouthguards shouldn’t be an afterthought. They should be part of the uniform like your sneakers or shoulder pads. At SISU, we’ve designed our mouthguards to be ultra-thin, breathable, and (yes) drinkable, so you can talk, sip water, and breathe easy. All without removing your guard. That makes them perfect for sports where speed and communication are key. Whether you're channeling your inner Caitlin or dreaming of a Kelce-level highlight, your game deserves protection that keeps up.   Fan Culture = Safety Culture Cultural moments come and go, but athlete safety is always in style. Whether you're a weekend warrior, rising star, or just starting your first season, SISU is here to protect what matters. Because if sports are taking center stage, safety deserves a spot in the starting lineup.
