CEO Post: How We Became Committed to the Fight Against Childhood Cancer

Alexs Lemonade stand

Ask any parent what the biggest moment in their life may be and I bet the #1 on the list will be the birth of their children.

I remember the moment we found out we were expecting our first born, our daughter. Such happiness, such excitement! Then our son came a couple of years later, and we were no less excited then.

Little did I know what we had thrown ourselves into. The responsibility, the many sleepless nights, the whirlwind of a change this meant to our lives. The love, the laughter, the tears, the worry, the joy of being a parent hit our lives little by little day by day.

Then one day, we realize the years have gone by and the kids were off to college. We are empty nesters! How did that happen? Where did the years go? Did we do our best? Could we have done more? Should we have done less? Knowing that that we sent our kids, now young adults, off healthy out in the world made us feel good. The rest is now up to them and we go about our lives with work and pleasure in the eternal circle called life.

But not everyone of us can be that lucky.

One of the things in my work life that has been close to my heart, is trying to give back where I can. The same thing has been instilled in our children. For us as a family that meant that we do community outreach, we donate and we help out. In the business and with all our employees,  we try to partner up with meaningful organizations where we can make a difference. Among those, we have been partnering up with a foundation for cancer. I was particularly proud over that relationship.

One day I got an email from a mother who told me her story of how she had lost a child. She was upset with us here at SISU and thought we could do better in helping in the fight against cancer than what we were doing at that moment.

Boy, did that hit home with me as a mother to two healthy young adults! I felt an instant gratitude that this mother had taken her time to open my eyes to other organizations who could benefit even better from our help and partnerships. That is how SISU Mouthguards became involved with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. There is no question in my mind that whatever we do, it will be only a drop in a bucket. But you know what? Many drops will fill that bucket up! That is why we are so proud of our new partnership and we can’t wait to share with you the proceeds of every single Sunny Yellow SISU Mouthguard to help fill that bucket up.

I urge and challenge everyone of you to please consider buying a Sunny Yellow Mouthguard. Maybe you don’t need one, but perhaps someone you know does? Your buddy, your sweetheart, your sister-in-law, your grandpa, your…. You get my drift, right? Help us help Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. It will make you feel very special to be a part of something so meaningful! And it will make us all feel proud to be a part of this. Thank you!
